Two things can be true at once, and that is that pregnancy was such a beautiful, yet awful experience! Haha!

I want to share with you my pregnancy story for my first, (and possibly only) pregnancy.

I used to love hearing other mom’s stories about their experiences during pregnancy, and very much still do!

It’s so comforting to know that someone else experienced the same symptoms as you during a major life changing event.

I’m know I’m not the only one who had a very nauseating pregnancy!

So grab your snacks ladies and gents, it took longer to write this than to get pregnant.

Just kidding! Not really! 😂

Keep reading for my pregnancy story.

Finding Out I was Pregnant

My boyfriend and I had been together for a really long time when we finally decided that we wanted to have kids.

We agreed that we were in a comfortable place in life to try and have a baby.

It was so frustrating because it took us 5 months to get pregnant. Every month I was so disappointed when I would get my period.

The timing just wasn’t right, it had to be perfect for my little peanut.

And then February of 2017..

I missed my period so I took a pregnancy test. Well actually I took a few pregnancy tests, you know, just to be sure!

The first one I took was one of those expensive name brand tests and it came back negative and I wasn’t convinced.

I later read that for best results, you should take a pregnancy test first thing in the morning as that’s when you have the highest concentration of HCG (the pregnancy hormone) in your urine.

So, I waited until the next morning and took two pregnancy tests. These were from the good old dollar store!

To my surprise, they both showed up positive!

I was ecstatic!

Missing my period was the most obvious sign.

I remember taking a cleansing tea, you know, the ones that make you shit your brains out the next day?

Yeah one of those, and I was still bloated so I knew something was different with my body.

The first trimester

I didn’t experience any symptoms until week six.

When I tell you it was literally overnight that everything changed, I mean it!

Week six, day one. I remember waking up nauseous and feeling so sick.

My face started breaking out like crazy from all the hormones.

I didn’t want to do anything or go anywhere, and I damn sure didn’t want to eat anything.

The thought of food made me gag.

I was recommended by so many mommies to take half a Unisom tablet with vitamin b6.

The combination is supposed to help with nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

I took Unisom almost every single night to prevent nausea the next day; however there were still days I woke up feeling sick.

At first, I was taking horse pill size prenatal vitamins and they were making me sick every time I took them.

It was bad enough I didn’t want to eat and when I did, everything came back up when I took this stupid pill.

My doctor recommended I try a gummy prenatal instead since they would be much easier on the stomach and they definitely were.

Everyone kept telling me it gets better when the second trimester rolls around.

I waited ever so patiently, I was tired of feeling sick all the time.

At 8 weeks I went in for my first appointment with my OBGYN, then, I had my very first ultrasound appointment!

I couldn’t believe it, I was really pregnant with my first child!

I wasn’t the only one excited.

My boyfriend snapped a picture of the ultrasound and sent it to all his friends before we even left the room!

That same day I told my friends the great news too!

Second Trimester

At around 3 months pregnant, I announced my pregnancy on my birthday.

Thankfully, I wasn’t too sick and could enjoy the day! Any other day however was a different story.

Around the 14 week mark, I remember getting a little bit of energy and starting to feel better as far as morning sickness.

At this point, I had already lost 10lbs simply because I couldn’t keep anything down.

I was so worried that I wouldn’t gain enough weight for the baby, however she was progressing just fine!

Around 20 weeks is when your doctor will schedule you for an ultrasound appointment to find out the sex of the baby.

Because I have a sister with Down Syndrome, I had blood work done to test for genetic disorders.

In this round of testing, they were able to determine the sex of the baby!

The day we found out, I absentmindedly grabbed a pink shirt. I didn’t think anything of it at the time.

We had a small “reveal party” at my parents’ house and my mom bought a cake to celebrate.

She told the bakery to use a color that was not pink or blue as it was going to be a reveal party and we did not yet know what the baby was going to be.

They completely disregarded what she told them and used pink icing for the letters that read ‘congratulations’.

Boy or girl, I would’ve been happy either way as long as my baby was healthy.

However, deep down I was praying for a girl!

It’s a girl!

I waited before telling people that I was having a girl, I wanted to enjoy the secret.

I was amazed at how many people kept asking me when I would reveal the sex of the baby. Honestly, it was annoying.

Being pregnant and emotional, everyone kept getting on my nerves when they would ask.

Then you have the ones that just assume what they want without having any real reason for doing so, that used to get under my skin.

Word of advice, if you’re going to ask a pregnant woman if she knows the sex of the baby and she tells you she does NOT wish to reveal it yet, don’t keep asking.

Seriously, it’s annoying.

When I was 5 months along, I decided I was finally ready to tell the world. Everyone was so excited that I was having a girl!

By now I was definitely starting to show! I remember I was working retail and complete strangers would just blatantly ask me how far along I was!

I thought it was rude to ask a woman if she’s expecting? Or is that ok to do now? I was so confused.

Around this time, I went in for another ultrasound appointment.

By now my baby’s face was a lot more defined and could easily be recognized on an ultrasound picture.

I fell in love when I saw the outline of her little face.

This is my favorite ultrasound scan that I have.

Morning sickness continues

The second trimester was definitely the easiest, slightly more energy and better mood, although still very much tired from pregnancy.

My hormones were still making me feel nauseous all the time, so I continued to take my half a tablet of Unisom every night.

My allergies started acting up around this time too.

I asked my doctor if it was ok to take Benadryl as it is the ONLY allergy medication that works for me.

He said it was fine, so I had to juggle taking Benadryl some days and Unisom on others.

I still wasn’t gaining much weight, but baby was progressing great and growing according to schedule so I was told not to worry.

I was still very emotional but I was happy during my pregnancy.

Also, my anxiety went away completely during my pregnancy. It did however return after having my baby which sucked.

I was actually on anxiety medication when I found out I was pregnant so I stopped taking it cold turkey!

Not recommended to do that, but I was scared! Everything turned out just fine though.

I did have a panic attack working one day. Not fun. I ended up leaving work early and going to the walk in.

I didn’t know it was a panic attack, I was gasping for air!

Everything was fine. It was just anxiety.

The second trimester was slowly coming to an end and around 28 weeks was the start of the third trimester.

Third Trimester

I thought I wasn’t showing much and then out of nowhere my belly started getting bigger and bigger!

People used to tell me that if you looked at me from behind, you honestly couldn’t tell I was pregnant until I turned around. One of the best compliments!

By now every random stranger I encountered would ask when I was due.

I was due at the end of October, and they all were so shocked because I didn’t look like I was that far along.

Oh but I felt huge!

I couldn’t breathe, it hurt to move every which way.

It was hard to get comfortable at night or at any moment of the day for that matter.

I was your typical hormonal, moody, pregnant woman at 8 months.

Those last few weeks I was over EVERYTHING!

Not to mention the foot in my rib cage for the last month straight!

Now I see what women meant when they said they wanted the baby out already!

I felt huge and could barely move without making some sort of sound effect.

Although mentally I was not ready to be a mother, physically I was READY

I just wanted to feel normal again.

The best of pregnancy

Despite how sick I felt for pretty much my entire pregnancy, it was such a beautiful thing to experience feeling your baby inside of your body.

It amazed me how she was able to move and stretch and I could feel all of it.

It was so funny every time she would get the hiccups! I would feel my belly jump every few seconds for a couple minutes.

I didn’t even know that was possible while pregnant!

Pregnancy is definitely one of those experiences that you never forget.

Although, I truly don’t know if I want to do it again haha!

At 9 months, I had my baby shower then ten days later, I gave birth!

This was the last picture that I took pregnant!
