My first time being pregnant was such a beautiful yet awful experience at the same time! Haha.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who had a very nauseating pregnancy experience.

So grab your snacks ladies and gents, it took longer to write this than to get pregnant.

Just kidding! Not really! 😂

Keep reading for more about my first time being pregnant

Finding Out I was Pregnant

My boyfriend and I had been together for a REALLY long time when we finally decided that we wanted to have kids.

We agreed that we were in a comfortable place in life to try and conceive and that’s what we did.

It was frustrating at first because it took us 5 months to finally get pregnant. Every month I was so disappointed when I would get my period.

The timing wasn’t right, it had to be perfect for my little peanut.

And then February of 2017..

I missed my period so I took a pregnancy test. Well actually I took a few pregnancy tests, you know, just to be sure!

The first one I took came back negative and I wasn’t convinced.

I later read that for best results, you should take a pregnancy test first thing in the morning as that’s when you have the highest concentration of HCG (the pregnancy hormone) in your urine.

So I waited until the next morning and took an additional two pregnancy tests.

To my surprise, they both showed up positive!

I was ecstatic!

My boyfriend and I had been speaking about having kids for a couple years and now it was finally going to happen! Missing my period was the most obvious sign.

I remember taking a cleansing tea.

You know, the ones that make you shit your brains out the next day haha, and I was still bloated so I knew something was different with my body.

The first 5 weeks were great!

I was happy, I was feeling great!

I thought, if this is how pregnancy really is why do people complain so much about morning sickness, mood swings, and a changing body?

i SPOKE TOO SOON!

Then week six hit!

When I tell you it was literally overnight that everything went to shit I mean it!

I followed three different pregnancy apps on my phone because apparently one wasn’t enough.

When they all said it was day one of week six, OMG I felt like straight death!

I remember waking up nauseous and feeling so sick. My face started breaking out like crazy from all the hormones.

The thought of food made me gag.

Well you know, all those lovely perks of pregnancy that I thought I wasn’t going to have, they all struck at the beginning of week 6!

At 8 weeks I went in for my first appointment with my OBGYN. They asked me questions about my sexual history, asked me if this was my first time being pregnant, which it was.

Then I had my very first ultrasound appointment!

Yep, there was definitely something in there!

I couldn’t believe this was happening! I was really pregnant with my first child!

I wasn’t the only one excited, my boyfriend snapped a picture of the ultrasound and sent it to all his friends before we even left the room!

That same day I told my friends the great news too!

As the first trimester went along, I was nauseous…

Every.

Single.

Day.

I didn’t want to do anything or go anywhere, and I damn sure didn’t want to eat anything.

I was recommended by so many mommies to take half a Unisom tablet with vitamin b6. The combination of the two is supposed to help with nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

I took Unisom almost every single night to prevent nausea the next day; however there were still days I woke up feeling sick.

At first I was taking horse pill size prenatal vitamins and they were making me sick every time I took them.

It was bad enough I didn’t want food to begin with and when I did eat, everything came back up when I took this stupid pill.

My doctor recommended I try a gummy prenatal instead since they would be easier on the stomach and they definitely were.

Everyone kept telling me, “It gets better when the second trimester rolls around”.

I waited ever so patiently for the second trimester to come, I was tired of feeling sick all the time.

Second Trimester

At around 3 months, I decided I wanted to announce my pregnancy to the rest of the world.

The risk of miscarriage drops around this time and it’s usually safe to announce a pregnancy if you wished.

My birthday was around that time too so I decided that I would announce it on my birthday!

Luckily for my birthday, I wasn’t too sick and could enjoy the day! Any other day however was a different story.

At around 14 weeks, I remember getting a little bit of energy and starting to feel better as far as morning sickness.

At this point, I had already lost 10lbs simply because I couldn’t eat much.

I was so worried that I wouldn’t gain enough weight for the baby, however she was progressing fine!

Around 20 weeks is when your doctor will schedule you for an ultrasound appointment to find out the sex of the baby.

Because I have a sister with Down Syndrome, I had blood work done to test for genetic disorders. In this round of testing, they were able to determine the sex of the baby!

I remember the day we found out, I absentmindedly grabbed a pink shirt. I didn’t think anything of it at the time but looking back, that was clue number one.

I had a doctor’s appointment that day where I would be receiving the envelope with my baby’s sex in it.

We had a small “reveal party” at my parents’ house and my mom bought a cake to celebrate.

She told the people working the bakery to use a color that was not pink or blue as it was going to be a reveal party and we did not yet know what the baby was going to be.

They completely disregarded what she told them and used pink icing for the letters that read ‘congratulations’; that was clue number 2!

They may seem like silly little things but to me, those were some pretty strong hints!

I was BEYOND excited when I found out I was having a girl!!

I waited before telling people that I was having a girl, I wanted to enjoy the secret.

I was amazed at how many people kept asking me if I would reveal the sex of the baby. Honestly, it was annoying.

Being pregnant and emotional, everyone kept getting on my nerves when they would ask.

Then you have the ones that just assume what they want without having any real reason for doing so, that used to get under my skin.

Word of advice, if you’re going to ask a pregnant woman if she knows the sex of the baby and she tells you she does NOT wish to reveal it yet…

DO NOT KEEP ASKING WHEN SHE IS GOING TO REVEAL IT!

At around 5 months, I decided to finally tell the world. Everyone was so excited that I was having a girl!

I would’ve been happy either way as long as my baby was healthy, however; deep down I prayed for a girl! And my wish was going to come true!

By now I was definitely starting to show! I remember I was working retail and complete strangers would just bluntly ask me how far along I was!

Like, I thought it was rude to ask a woman if she’s expecting? Or is that ok to do now? I was so confused. Anyway I would smile back and tell them yes I was expecting.

At around this time as well, I went in for another ultrasound appointment. By now my baby’s face was a lot more defined and could easily be recognized on an ultrasound picture.

I fell in love when I saw the outline of her little face.

This has to be my favorite ultrasound scan.

The second trimester was definitely the easiest. I could easily move around even with a little belly.

Although tired naturally from pregnancy, I still had some energy to get things done than during the first trimester.

My hormones were still making me feel nauseous all the time so I continued to take my half a tablet of Unisom every night.

Around this time as well my allergies started acting up.

I asked my doctor if it was ok to take Benadryl as it is the ONLY allergy medication that works for me and he said it was fine so I had to juggle taking Benadryl some days and Unisom on others.

I still wasn’t gaining much weight, but baby was progressing great and growing according to schedule so I was told not to worry.

I was still hormonal and emotional but I was very happy during my pregnancy.

Also during my pregnancy, my anxiety went away COMPLETELY. It did however return after having my baby.

I was actually on anxiety medication when I found out I was pregnant so I stopped taking it cold turkey. Not recommended to do that, but I was scared.

The second trimester was slowly coming to an end and around 28 weeks was the start of the third trimester.

Third Trimester

I thought I wasn’t showing much and then out of nowhere my belly starting getting bigger and bigger!

People used to tell me that if you looked at me from behind, you honestly couldn’t tell I was pregnant until I turned around. One of the best compliments!

By now every random stranger I encountered working retail would ask when I was due. I was due the end of October I would tell everyone, and they all were so shocked because I didn’t look like I was that far along.

Oh but I felt huge!

I couldn’t breathe, it hurt to move every which way, it was hard to get comfortable at night or at any moment for that matter.

I was your typical hormonal, moody pregnant woman at 8 months.

The last few weeks I was over EVERYTHING! HAHA! Not to mention the foot in my rib cage for the last month straight!

Now I see what women meant when they said they wanted the baby out already! I felt huge and could barely move without making some sort of sound effect.

Although mentally I was NOT ready to be a mother, physically I WAS READY! I just wanted to feel normal again.

At 9 months, I had my baby shower. Ten days before I gave birth!

Yeah that was too close I’ll have to work that better if I ever have another baby.

This was the last picture that I took pregnant!

And then ten days later I had my baby!

THAT IS, AFTER 37+ HOURS OF LABOR!
